NHL Alumni Roster Revealed for Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s™ in Support of Baycrest North America’s largest charity hockey tournament welcomes legends Wendel Clark, Darryl Sittler, Darcy Tucker and many more to its line up
TORONTO – March 28, 2017 – This May, hundreds of Toronto’s biggest hockey fans will get the chance to skate with legends of the game while supporting research into Alzheimer’s. Today the Baycrest Foundation announced the NHL Alumni roster for the 12th Annual Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s™ – and it’s filled with some of the sport’s biggest names, including Wendel Clark, Darryl Sittler and Darcy Tucker.
“What sets this tournament apart from others is the full breadth of the participant experience,” said Josh Cooper, President and CEO, of the Baycrest Foundation. “This is not just a quick meet-and-greet with hockey legends, but a full weekend of face time, both on and off the ice. Combined with the good work that comes from their fundraising efforts, the tournament provides a priceless experience for everyone involved.”
The Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s™ in support of Baycrest is the largest on-ice fundraising hockey tournament in North America. The tournament, taking place at Scotiabank Pond on May 5 th and 6th, 2017, allows fans to team up with some of hockey’s greatest players to raise money for Baycrest Health Sciences, a leader in care, research and education for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and home to one of the world’s top neurocognitive research centres – the Rotman Research Institute. A pre-tournament Draft Night takes place May 4th at the Liberty Grand. At this private VIP event top fundraising teams get to draft their NHL Alumni teammates and rub elbows with their favourite players.
For the first time since the tournament began, the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s™ in Support of Baycrest is offering two fundraising levels: “Pro Team”, with a minimum goal of $15,000, and “Legends Team”, with a goal of $25,000+, making the event even more accessible to fans of Canada’s game. For players looking to join an existing team, the “Free Agent” level sets a goal of $1,000 for a single player.
“We want hockey fans and players across the Greater Toronto Area to know that anyone can play,” added Cooper. “All skill levels are welcome and the fundraising minimums are achievable. In fact, most of our teams far exceed their goals due to their enthusiasm and the support of the community for this cause. The more money a team raises, the higher their pick in the draft, so that is a large driver for fundraising.”
This life-changing event has raised more than $30 million since its inception in 2004.
“Scotiabank has a long history of supporting hockey in Canada, and we are thrilled to be the title sponsor of the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s,” said Ajay Mundkur, Senior Vice President, Toronto Region at Scotiabank. “At Scotiabank, we believe that everyone needs a team. As a proud teammate of Baycrest and the NHL Alumni, Scotiabank is honoured to bring the hockey community together for an unforgettable experience in support of a great cause.”
