Pro-Am Stars – Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart and soul of any successful event. In fact, most charitable events wouldn’t happen without the passionate support of the outstanding volunteers who give of their personal time to lend a helping hand. This holds especially true for the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in Support of Baycrest. Our event relies on our outstanding volunteers for its success. Over the years, we have had many volunteers, most of whom return annually to ensure we succeed. We call these volunteers our “Pro-Am Stars.” We’re excited to introduce you to a few of them now:

Ethan

  1. How many years have you volunteered your time at the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest?
    One year.
  2. If this was your first year, will you be volunteering again for our 2018 event?
I will definitely be back in 2018 to volunteer for the event as I really enjoyed the experience this past year.
  3. Why did you volunteer for the Pro-Am?
I volunteered for the Pro-Am because I really enjoy doing volunteer work and I really love hockey, so it was a great way to combine two of my favourite things and get involved with a great cause.
  4. How did you hear about the opportunity to volunteer?
My brother (Jori) volunteered for the event with my cousin the year prior and my father (Stuart) wanted to volunteer as well this year so he asked me if I’d like to volunteer this year and I happily agreed.
  5. What was one highlight for you personally at the Pro-Am?
There were many highlights for me personally this year but being able to meet some of the All Time great NHL stars and being able to do important volunteer work and be honoured for it with a Hall Of Fame induction were my greatest highlights.

Jori

  1. How many years have you volunteered your time at the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest?
I’ve been volunteering my time at the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest for two years.
  2. If you have done this for more than 1 year, what brings you back year after year?  Will you be volunteering for our 2018 event?
Getting the chance to make a difference is what brings me out to this event year after year. Volunteerism has been instilled in me from a young age and I have always enjoyed making time to help others. Plus meeting the pros is a nice perk too!  I also look forward to coming back and helping out in the 2018 Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s.
  3. Why did you volunteer for the Pro-Am?
As I mentioned, I have a passion for volunteering. Combine that with my obsession with hockey and you have the perfect opportunity for me to do something that I truly love.
  4. How did you hear about the opportunity to volunteer?
I volunteered with my cousin two years ago and enjoyed it so much that I volunteered again the following year.
  5. What was one highlight for you personally at the Pro-Am?
There are too many highlights to name. Meeting some of the pro hockey stars of my childhood such as Nik Antropov and Tomas Kaberle was incredibly cool!! Being honoured with a Hall Of Fame induction for our work was also very cool!!

Stuart

  1. How many years have you volunteered your time at the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest?
This was my first year volunteering at the Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest after attending as a fan numerous times.
  2. If this was your first year, will you be volunteering again for our 2018 event?
After this past year’s wonderful experience I will most definitely be coming back with my boys (Ethan and Jori) to volunteer for the 2018 event!!
  3. Why did you volunteer for the Pro-Am?
I have a huge passion for volunteering. I am very involved with a number of charitable causes in a volunteer capacity and have a special spot for Baycrest based on my family history.  I love hockey a great deal as well so it was just a natural thing to want to get involved with the Scotiabank Pro-Am with my boys, who also love hockey and volunteering!
  4. How did you hear about the opportunity to volunteer?
I have known about and attended the event since its inception but it wasn’t until my older son Jori volunteered with my nephew Josh two years ago that I gave some consideration to volunteering at the event.  Jori seemed to enjoy the experience so my younger son Ethan and I figured we’d better jump in with Jori and join the fun for a great cause!
  5. What was one highlight for you personally at the Pro-Am?
The highlight was definitely NOT the weather!! It’s hard to choose one highlight.  Most certainly it was an honour and pleasure to serve as the Bag Valet Team Leader and greet all the guest.  I absolutely love doing this!! But I would be remiss if I didn’t say that meeting and kibitzing with the hockey stars, especially Mark Napier, John Scott, Pat Boutette and my all-time favourite Lanny McDonald, was a total thrill!  The cherry on top was having myself and my sons inducted into the Baycrest Scotiabank Pro-Am Hall Of Fame.  A real honour!
