Get ready to lace up your skates ‘cuz we’re about to hit you up with 10 facts that you didn’t know about this year’s Scotiabank Pro-Am for Alzheimer’s in support of Baycrest.
- It’s the biggest, on-ice hockey charity event in North America, involving more than 500 participants and dozens of NHL Alumni and professional hockey players.
- Funds raised go toward Baycrest, world-renowned for its work in the fields of brain health and aging, with a specific focus on Alzheimer’s research, treatment and care.
- It all kicks off on Draft Night, where you get to pick which Alumni will play on your team. The more money your team has raised leading up to (and even during!) Draft Night, the further up the draft board you pick. Can you reach the #1 selection?
- Draft Night is also known as the “Draft Party,” a chance to hang out with some of your favourite NHL stars, ask them about their glory days, hear them tell stories of their time on the ice – where else would you be able to do that?!
- Players who raise more than $100,000 cumulative lifetime will win the Pro-Am season’s Player Award and be inducted into the Baycrest Pro-Am Hockey Hall of Fame. (And get some great SWAG in the process.)
- Teams that raise $1 million or more cumulative lifetime will receive the season’s Legacy Team Award and be inducted into the Baycrest Pro-Am Hockey Hall of Fame. (And that whole SWAG thing too.)
- Lucky enough to make it to the championship game? Be part of the final, as the two top teams from the tournament duke it out for ultimate bragging rights.
- Want to chill with your kids and loved ones? The Pro-Am has a famous Family Skate on the Saturday of the tournament. Let the little ones zip around the ice, get autographs from alumni and pros, and maybe run into a certain Maple Leafs’ mascot whose name rhymes with “Marlton.” Fun for everyone!
- Teams and individual players win prizes in the months before the Pro-Am. The Baycrest Foundation Pro-Am team sets aside some sweet gifts for those tenacious enough to fundraise like champs and make their teammates look like epic slackers.
- This year, we’re adding a Skills Competition! You’ll get to show off your nasty dekes, toe-drags and spin-a-ramas against some of the legends of the game. Warning: You WILL be laughed at if you mess up.
